Don't hide the truth, Blogdrive

I don't think that moving forum topics to the Romper Room is doing the members any justice. Although they are a little hot on fire but they are still serious topics talking about real issues that concerns the welfare of Blogdrive members. They don't deserve to be in the Romper Room because they are not ill-mannered or arguing for the sake of arguing.

Moving these topics away from the main branch (in this case Helpee's on Fire) is like China's media control policy. I think forum moderators should re-evaluate what they move away from the main branch. It feels like censorship to me.

Please reconsider this and move them back to where they really belong.

Template Images

I've began migrating my above average post from http://seigey.blogdrive.com/. The process will take a while but it'll be worth it, it's a waste to all the time and effort wasted on permalinks and page rank but this is how it should be in the end.

Blogger introduce RSS feeds

I just learned that Blogspot introduced RSS feed, just very recently. It seems odd seeing they already have ATOM feeds, why all of a sudden introducing RSS? Besides, RSS version are older than Atom, its going to be obsolete sooner than Atom. So why are they releasing RSS then?

Also, it appears that RSS list the last 25 updated items, which is different from their Atom feature because unlike their RSS, they only list the selected number of post you on the front page. Weird, why the disimiliarity.

Lucky for us, Blogdrive have long been supporting both RSS and ATOM. And Blogdrive displays a reasonable number of items (10).

However I do hope that Blogdrive will introduce some RSS features such as editing options (HTML) or whether we can publish full or partial feed... I've included this in the forum topic asking for more features.

More on Google Trends (Blogdrive and Blogger)

Google Trends plots how popular a search term is over time. Basically, how many times people type into Google to look for such information. So, the previous entry shows you the search volume over the last two years and where those searches comes from.

Google Trends can also show you the comparison between two search terms. Such as: Blogdrive, Blogspot.

skype, msn messenger, google talk, icq, yahoo messenger

What about Love and hate?
What about sex, porn, nude, naked?
What about boys and girls?
What about Brad pitt, orlando bloom and johnny depp?

This google trend thing is really addictive.... it really is!

Will Blogdrive be bought up by Media Giants?

In the previous year, we see lots of small startup or small companies being bought up by big media giants to be key players in their industrial roles. Sites such as blogspot being acquired by Google and hotmail acquired by Microsoft.

Not that I want BD to be sold to other parties, but it's an interesting speculation.

Here's an interesting read on what Hungry Media giants are looking for in small companies:

Also of interest are sites that allow people to play casual interactive games; store, send, manipulate and print photos; build and store blogs; and research and shop for big-ticket items like cars. Also eliciting interest are "next generation" Web sites, like those focused on allowing people to search the universe of blogs more effectively.

The media companies' interest has to do with the continuing shift in the ways Americans consume entertainment and shop. Just as the advent of cable television carved up a once-concentrated block of network TV viewers, so has the Internet — with its literally millions of Web sites — created highly fragmented niche audiences.

For big companies, the key is to build or buy Web sites that attract those niche audiences, but in substantial numbers. For a Web site to pique the interest of mass-market advertisers, it needs to have at least a million unique visitors a month; to be considered a major takeover candidate, it needs to have five million unique visitors, said Sharon Wienbar, a managing director with BA Venture Partners, a Silicon Valley venture firm that invests in Internet content companies.

Note: Photobucket was mentioned in the article. Seems like Photobucket's most valueable asset it's their user base.

BlogDrive Jumping on the Bandwagon

A few months ago, or rather one year ago we were seeing the quick boom of online social networking websites. First there was friendster, or some other companies like myspace, zorpia, hi5, ringo, facebook, bebo and many many others, I'm not even sure which one appear first but they all just sprung out of no where trying make their mark in the boom.

As far as I know, Friendster and Myspace are among the most popular social networking websites available. It is estimated that friendster may have over one billion users account, while Myspace claims they serve up to 10% of the entire internet's advertising. That's one very brave and bold statement to make.

In the past (in the web 1.0 period), there were different types of online community websites. They are mainly separated into several types: Blogs platforms, Social Networking, photo sharing/hostings, Music Sites, Forums. As each of these website develops, they started to attempt to synchronise each of these different types of websites into themselves. In the hope of gathering more users.

One of the very first social networking that did this was Zorpia, where many of it's ideas came from developing a photo sharing community, and Xanga (a journal type website) and social networking (friendster based). Not long after the idea became realise as a brilliant way of providing more features to their users and extending their userbase, Friendster acquired typepad (blog software) as their default bloggint tool. Myspace choose to develop their own blogging feature as well.

These are the big giants in the pioneering business of the new way of life.

The bigger giants started to jump in the bandwagon, Google acquired BlogSpot, Yahoo did 360 and MSN did MSN Spaces.

So what we'll be expecting to see in the very near future is a portal based on a combination of these:

Blogs + Social Networking + Photo/Music/Video sharing + Instant Messenger + Forums.

Of course, the giants that have the bigger advantage over other
companies in the long run due to their wide IM userbase, such as
Google, Yahoo and MSN.

BLOGDRIVE

In the way the direction of internet business is going, it makes sense that BD will probably be introducing more features to satisfy their users needs. Such as music hosting, video, networking, personal profiles and many more. It has been revealed, somewhat that videos are coming out? And that they are researching on Myspace, going into networking kinda thing.

We'll be expecting to see new features on Blogdrive. How soon I don't know but I'm excited to see the new features.

Hopefully we'll get to see some Personal Messaging thingy too.

BlogDrive User's Review

Another BlogDrive user's complaint, Allison writes for wabimysabi and has been featured on the main BlogDrive page as a featured subscribers before. Read it here.

She talks about her overall opinion with BlogDrive which both involves good and bad points, stressing on the "Page cannot be displayed" error issue which has been annoying me and (I'm pretty sure) many others as well. However, I think it can't be entirely blamed on BD because it may just be the connection problem on individuals, or the host server that BD is using. Nevertheless, it's really annoying.

Here are some interesting stuff she touch on:

I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes of BlogDrive at the moment. If they were upgrading servers, or tweaking the features... surely it would be in their best interest to post a notice to that effect on the main page.

The Forum. What to say about the forum, except that one has to have an enormous set of balls and a bag of bravado to go and ask for assistance or feedback there. It scares me.

HAHA, ain't that true? But now since Christine and Andy is gone, everything is calm and peace. I assure you that you do not have to be afraid to post in the forum.

BlogDrive has better features than Blogger or LiveJournal, but frankly, if they had a tagboard on the main page, I wouldn't have signed up for their services back in the day, particularly if it were the apparent focal point of the page. In short, I think BD needs a bit of slick, detached professionalism to kick up it's image a notch or two. Am I nervous? A little bit. I want BlogDrive to succeed. I want BlogDrive to eventually kick Blogger's dauber into the dirt. I also don't want to lose all this pointless garbage I've written and become so attached to.

For the record, I am willing to help out BlogDrive in any way possible, and that includes not only renewing my account, but upgrading it as well. It still beats anybody else's blogging service hands down.

I feel you, I'm sure most people do but this is up to the Administrator of BlogDrive to make it happen.

Once again, BlogDrive is still pretty low in the chart. In fact, it has dropped (with reference to my earlier post using bsentinel.com as source) This may be a different source. But it gives us a rough figure and estimation.

Let's make BlogDrive a better place.
